Takyo‐Abeke is an inn created by Tomi Matsuba, who spent over a decade living in and restoring the Abe family’s samurai residence. The residence was originally built in 1789 for local officials. The name ‘Takyo’ comes from the Chinese phrase ‘他鄉遇故知’ (tā xiāng yù gù zhī), meaning ‘the joy of being welcomed in a foreign land as if in one’s own hometown, and the preciousness of kinship’. The guest rooms consist of two distinct spaces, each thoughtfully designed to exude unique charm. When travellers gather around the same table, lively conversation naturally ensues.
