日本海に面した舞鶴は東西に分かれています。東舞鶴はかつて軍港が置かれ、今も海上自衛隊が駐屯する港町です。一方の西舞鶴は田辺城の城下町です。2012年、舞鶴を想う有志たちの手で築130年の町家が生まれ変わりました。
