We are a guesthouse with a unique, traditional Japanese style, located in Nara. Nara was the capital of Japan 1300 years ago. Todaiji temple, Kasuga shrine, Koufukuji are located in Nara. This is a one of the tourist city in the world. Kidera no ie is located in the Naramachi area, a neighborhood where the residents are local people. There are many Machiya (Japanese traditional houses) in the neighborhood.

Hot springs and a little port village, Yunotsu. If you try taking our hot spring once, you will become addicted. And you can enjoy local fresh sea food and vegetable. You will see old traditions are still alive in Yunotsu. Even we do not have convenience store, but local shops are full of energy with neighbors and travelers. Then we think about what is the genuine riches on our life.

NOTELがある小豆島の肥土山は、大昔、荘園だった時代から江戸時代には幕府の直轄領とされ古くから農村地域として続いてきました。 虫送りや農村歌舞伎は、今でもここに住まう人の手によって、その伝統が引き継がれています。 農村の中では、家々の間を縫うように田んぼ用の水路が流れ、日々田畑や山の手入れをするのが日常です。 文化だけでなく、暮らし方も長い歴史から地続きで変わらないものがここにあります。
NOTELKAGAWA
Hitoyama, where our guesthouse is located, has been a farming area for many years. It was once a shouen, a type of private property owned by nobles, temples, or local lords, the system introduced during the Heian period. Later, it became a direct domain of the shogunate in the Edo period. The history runs deep, and traditional events such as ***Mushi-Okuri*** (a ritual to drive away rice pests and pray for a bountiful harvest) and ***Nouson-Kabuki*** (a form of rural kabuki, which has been performed by locals for over 300 years and is designated as an important intangible cultural heritage) have been carried on to this day. In the village, irrigation canals run between the houses, and we take care of rice fields, farms, and mountains as part of our daily routine. Not only the culture but also the way of daily life reflect important habits and traditions that have remained throughout history. However, the decline in population and birthrate are becoming more serious social issues in Japan, and this village is no exception. As a result, abandoned farmlands have increased and are gradually returning to the mountains. Whether we can pass this beautiful village on to the next generation depends on us, the people living here today. NOTEL welcomes our guests as a gateway into the village, while also opening doors to a promising future for our community. We hope you experience our way of life and share the peaceful joy of living surrounded by nature.

鹿児島県大隅半島、錦江湾に突き出した岬の突端。120年の歴史を閉じた鹿屋市立菅原小学校。でもこの小学校には今も大勢の卒業生やまちの人たちの想いが宿っています。 2018年夏、菅原小学校は、地域の人々みんなが力をあわせて大隅半島を訪れる人々をおもてなしする体験滞在型宿泊施設「ユクサおおすみ海の学校」としてうまれかわりました。子どもたちのために、子どもだったおとなたちのために。
YUKUSA OHSUMI KAGOSHIMA
In 2013, At the tip of a cape sticking out into Osumi ‘s Kinko Bay in Kanoya-ciy, Kagoshima-prefecture, "Sugawara Sho-gakko", an elementary school ended its role after 120 years of public service. Although the schoolhouse ended its original role, the sentiments of the children, teachers and neighbors remain. These emotions, led to the rebirth of the facility in 2018. The schoolhouse now serves as an accommodation & camping park, dedicated to enjoy and learn from the nature and the locals of Osumi. The former school now serves under a new name, “YUKUSA”, meaning “Welcome !” in the Osumi dialect. For the children, and for the grown-ups who once were.
